Can I use a lawyer at my mediation hearing?

In Florida, you are not required to have an attorney represent you during a mediation. However, both parties do have the right to retain counsel to represent them during their mediation and having an attorney at your side to give you legal advice is very important. Even if the mediator is a family law attorney, he or she cannot ethically give you legal advice. Therefore, we recommend that you have a knowledgeable divorce and family law attorney with you at mediation to help you get the best possible agreement.
