I am getting a divorce. Do I need to hire an attorney?

There is no requirement that you have an attorney represent you during a divorce proceeding, however it is highly recommended that you have an attorney that will look out for your rights and be able to strategize the case with you through the proceeding.  A divorce must follow a certain divorce procedure and pleadings (documents) that must be filed before the divorce can be completed.  Especially if you have contested divorce issues hiring a knowledgeable and experienced divorce attorney will be highly beneficial.   Even if it is an uncontested divorce case, it will still be beneficial to you to hire an attorney as there are still procedures to follow and pleadings to be filed before the case can be finalized.  Trying to do it yourself can be very stressful.
